As you are aware the situation with dedicated organic marts has changed. As of 1st August 2018, there will no longer be dedicated organic livestock marts. Instead, local marts can arrange organic sales if and when they wish, and organic farmers will have to contact the mart directly to book in their animals. There will be no organic inspector for these sales, so it is up to the buyer of organic stock to ensure they receive the correct paperwork (see list below) in order for the stock to retain their organic status. The marts known for organic sales (Drumshanbo, Roscommon, Kilmallock & Templemore), have stated they continue as before with frequent organic marts. The Irish Organic Association will continue to list dates of arranged marts on our website and newsletters. It is incumbent on members to make sure they obtain the paperwork on the day of the mart.
ITEMS WHICH MUST ACCOMPANY STOCK TO THE MART:
- Current year’s organic licence/cert for each animal or group of animals for sale
- Completed and signed Livestock Sales Declaration Form for each animal or group of animals for sale
- Completed and signed sales Livestock Declaration Form and a copy of the organic licence/cert (from the year in which the purchase took place) from all previous owners in the case of bought in animals.
- Blue animal cards
You may be turned away from the mart if you do not have the correct paperwork.
Once dates are confirmed for 2020 we will add them to the website
