Celebrating and Raising Awareness About Biodiversity
May marks the month-long Festival of Farmland Biodiversity, while National Biodiversity Week takes place between 16th and 25th May. Both initiatives are designed to celebrate and raise awareness about biodiversity within the farmed landscape and to connect people with nature more broadly.
The Festival of Farmland Biodiversity is coordinated virtually by the National Biodiversity Data Centre, with this year’s focus on celebrating actions that farmers and growers are taking for farmland biodiversity, with a specific emphasis on native hedgerows, and sharing experience. Activities include a hedgerow photo competition, a series of farm walks and more.
National Biodiversity Week is organised by the Irish Environmental Network and funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with both in-person and virtual activities, including the annual Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition as well as farm walks and events nationwide throughout the week.
The Irish Organic Association is a partner organisation of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.
