Update from Department of Agriculture

  • found in a grey heron in Midleton, County Cork and in a mute swan in Lough Eorna, Co. Tipperary (in the same area as previous cases in whooper swans)
  • Both birds were found dead on 3 February
  • This brings the total of wild bird positives to 8
  • The grey heron & mute swan are considered resident species in Ireland – this is the first time that H5N8 has been confirmed in resident species here
